Side by side

How we picked

How we picked: seven laptops in our catalogue match this processor, and since that is fewer than 12, this page shows every one. Five state the plain Ryzen 9 9955HX. Two, both MSI Raider A18 HX builds, state the Ryzen 9 9955HX3D, a separate AMD model; we keep them because the catalogue has no other laptops in this family and mark the difference in each entry. Four of the seven are reseller configurations from two resellers, which we label, and two ASUS Strix G18 listings differ only in storage and Windows edition. Processor facts come from ASUS's spec page, GPU facts from NVIDIA. Prices on this page are live: each one is read from the store listing and shown with the time it was read. Nobody at wikilaptop.org has tested these units; every comparison is drawn from the stated specifications.

How to choose

What the Ryzen 9 9955HX is

ASUS lists the Ryzen 9 9955HX with 16 cores, 32 threads, 80MB of cache, a 2.5 GHz base clock and a boost of up to 5.4 GHz. It is an HX chip: made for high-frame-rate gaming, rendering and compiling in large laptops, not for long battery life.

Two picks here state the Ryzen 9 9955HX3D instead. It is a separate AMD model, so compare it on the maker's own data rather than assuming it behaves like the plain 9955HX.

Match the GPU to the processor

All seven picks use NVIDIA RTX 50 series graphics, built on the Blackwell architecture. Four have an RTX 5070 and three an RTX 5080, which the listings state with 16GB of graphics memory. With a processor this strong, the GPU sets most frame rates, so choose the GPU tier first.

Screen and size

Six picks have an 18-inch screen and one a 16-inch screen. Four run at 240Hz, one at 165Hz and two at 120Hz. Weight runs from 2.5 kg to 3.6 kg, so these are desktop replacements; the 16-inch ROG Strix G16 is the one to pick if you move it often.

Reseller builds

Four of the seven picks are reseller configurations from two resellers. They add memory and storage beyond the maker's configurations; ASUS, for example, lists a 64GB memory maximum for the Strix G18 (2025), while the reseller build states 128GB. Ask each reseller which parts it fitted, who handles warranty claims and whether the maker's warranty still applies.

Battery and power

HX processors and RTX GPUs drain a battery quickly under load, so plan to work near an outlet. ASUS lists a 90Wh battery for the Strix G18 (2025); the other listings here do not state battery size, so check the maker's page.

Questions

Is the Ryzen 9 9955HX good for gaming?

Yes. ASUS lists it with 16 cores, 32 threads and a boost of up to 5.4 GHz, enough to feed high-end GPUs. The graphics card still sets most frame rates, so pair it with an RTX 5070 or RTX 5080 and a high-refresh screen. Four picks here run at 240Hz.

What is the difference between the 9955HX and the 9955HX3D?

They are separate AMD models. Two picks in this list, both MSI Raider A18 HX builds, state the 9955HX3D. We compare those laptops on their listed specifications only and do not claim a performance difference, since we have not run the two chips side by side. Check AMD's own product pages for the published differences.

What battery life can I expect with this processor?

Short under load. HX processors and RTX 50 series GPUs are designed for performance, so plan to stay near an outlet for gaming or rendering. ASUS lists a 90Wh battery for the Strix G18 (2025); for the other picks, check the battery capacity in Wh on the maker's page.

Did you test these laptops?

No. Nobody at wikilaptop.org has used these units. We compared them from the specifications stated on each listing, cross-checked with ASUS's and NVIDIA's published data. We do not describe heat, noise or keyboard feel, because those claims need testing we have not done.

Why do prices on this page change?

Each price is read live from the store listing and shown with the time it was read. Prices for high-end and reseller-built laptops move often, so we never write price comparisons into the text. Check the time next to each price and open the listing to confirm the configuration before you buy.
